# Pipeline resource constraints

This topic describes how to prevent multiple pipelines or stages from requesting the same deployment environment resources at the same time.

This topic describes how pipeline resource constraints prevent multiple pipelines or stages from requesting the same deployment environment resources simultaneously.

## What you will learn from this topic

* How Harness queues deployments in the [resource constraints summary](#resource-constraints-summary).
* How to turn off[ resource constraints](#disabling-resource-constraints) for a stage.

Harness automatically adds resource constraints to every stage. Understand how the mechanism works and how to disable it before relying on parallel deployments on the same infrastructure.

Harness provides multiple options for controlling resource usage and protecting capacity limits. For more information, see [Controlling resource usage with barriers, resource constraints, and queue steps](/continuous-delivery/use-continuous-delivery/manage-deployments/controlling-deployments-with-barriers-resource-constraints-and-queue-steps.md).

### Resource constraints summary <a href="#resource-constraints-summary" id="resource-constraints-summary"></a>

Harness allows only one stage to deploy to the same combination of service and infrastructure at a time. The stages are typically in different pipelines, but resource constraints also apply to stages in the same pipeline that run in parallel.

Harness queues deployments to ensure that two service and infrastructure definition combinations are not deploying at the same time.

Once the first stage in the queue finishes deploying, the next stage can deploy to that service-and-infrastructure combination.

You can also view the number of queued deployments and access their execution links by hovering over the **Resource Constraint** step.

### Disable resource constraints <a href="#disabling-resource-constraints" id="disabling-resource-constraints"></a>

To allow multiple pipelines to deploy to the same infrastructure simultaneously, enable the **Allow simultaneous deployments on the same infrastructure** option in the stage's **Infrastructure** settings.
