# Harness Skills

Claude Code skills for the Harness CI/CD platform: generate pipeline YAML, manage resources, debug failures, analyze costs, and more from natural language.

Harness Skills follow a shared operating model irrespective of the resource type they target, and group into workflow modes so you can quickly find the right skill for a task. This topic describes every available skill, grouped by the plugin that provides it.

### Before you begin <a href="#before-you-begin" id="before-you-begin"></a>

Before you invoke a skill from this catalog, ensure you have the following:

* **AI coding assistant**: Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex, or Windsurf, configured to load skill instructions. For more information, see [Set up skills](#before-you-begin).
* **Harness MCP Server**: A configured [MCP server](/harness-ai/3.0/use-harness-ai/ide-and-integrations/mcp-server/harness-mcp-server.md) for tool execution.
* **Harness API key**: An [API key](/harness-platform/3.0/harness-platform-resources/automation/api/add-and-manage-api-keys.md) to authenticate with the Harness platform.

### Operating model <a href="#operating-model" id="operating-model"></a>

The best Harness skills follow the same flow of control even when they target different resource types. This consistency keeps skill behavior predictable regardless of the resource you are working with.

1. **Establish scope first**: Confirm account, org, and project context before listing, creating, updating, or deleting resources.
2. **Verify dependencies before generating dependents**: Confirm that every connector, secret, environment, infrastructure definition, and template exists before a generated resource references it.
3. **Discover schema before writing payloads**: Use `harness_describe` and API validation feedback instead of guessing field names or payload shape.

### Install skills as plugins <a href="#install-skills-as-plugins" id="install-skills-as-plugins"></a>

Skills ship as nine Claude Code plugins, each covering one platform area. Install only the plugins you need:

On older Claude Code versions, add the marketplace first, then install:

/plugin install harness-fme@harness-skills

After installing, invoke a skill by its fully qualified name, which is the plugin name and the skill name separated by a colon, such as `/harness-fme:create-feature-flag`. To update your installed plugins, run `/plugin marketplace update harness-skills`.

Plugin installs do not load the repository level rules in `AGENTS.md`, which cover scope establishment, dependency checks, and schema validation. FME skills load their shared rules from `references/fme/`, and the remaining skills rely on their own instructions. To pick up the repository level rules, work from a clone of the repository instead. ### Workflow modes <a href="#workflow-modes" id="workflow-modes"></a>

Skills are grouped into four workflow modes based on the type of task you are performing. Use this table to identify which skills apply to your current task.
