Deploy
A Deploy stage pre-configures a stage for deploying services to environments.
A Deploy stage is a starting configuration for deploying services to environments, executing rollout strategies, and managing infrastructure. Selecting Deploy when you add a stage pre-populates the Deploy section with fields for your service, environment, and infrastructure definition, so you can connect your deployment target without setting up a blank stage.
The Deploy type is not a restriction. You can run scripts, build artifacts, or trigger notifications from within a Deploy stage. The label describes intent, not capability.
What you will learn
What a Deploy stage is and when to use one over a blank canvas stage
What the Deploy configuration section pre-populates when you add a Deploy stage
How service, environment, infrastructure definition, and execution fields are organized
What deploy stages are used for
Deploying services to Kubernetes, ECS, Lambda, VMs, and other targets
Running rolling, blue-green, and canary deployment strategies
Executing Helm chart deployments and GitOps syncs
Provisioning infrastructure with Terraform or CloudFormation as part of a deployment
Running pre-deployment and post-deployment validation steps
Deploy configuration
When you add a Deploy stage, the Deploy section expands automatically. This section contains:
Service: the Harness service definition describing what is being deployed (artifact, manifests, and config)
Environment: the target environment (dev, staging, production) and its infrastructure
Infrastructure definition: the connection details for the deployment target (cluster, namespace, account, region)
Execution: the deployment strategy (rolling, blue-green, canary) and any pre/post steps
All other stage sections (Inputs & outputs, Execution controls, Runtime Environment) are also available and work the same way as in any other stage type.
