# Step: background

## Properties

* **script** - *string*\
  The script to run.
* **shell** - *string*\
  The shell in which the script is run

  **enum values:**

  * `sh`
  * `bash`
  * `powershell`
  * `pwsh`
* **envs** - *map\[string]string*\
  The environment variables.
* **container** - *Container, string*\
  The container in which the script is run
* **mount** - *Mount*\
  The volumes mounted into the container

## Examples

Background step.

```yaml
steps:
- name: redis
  type: background
  spec:
    container: redis
```

Background step with container details.

```yaml
steps:
- name: redis
  type: background
  spec:
    container:
      image: redis
      workdir: /opt/redis
```
